Ways to stay in control
- Set a budget before you start and stop when it is gone. Never chase losses.
- Only bet money you can afford to lose; never bills, rent or borrowed money.
- Set deposit limits and time reminders in your sportsbook account, or take a break or self-exclude.
- Do not bet when you are upset, tired or drinking.
- Remember every price includes a margin for the sportsbook, so the long-run odds are against the bettor. See the vig explained.
Warning signs
- Betting more than you planned, or hiding it from people close to you.
- Feeling anxious or irritable when you are not betting.
- Borrowing money or missing payments to keep betting.
